Maulaff Fruchtbier

Task: The Aschaffenburg Maulaff is a very popular figure of Aschaffenburg made of oakwood. The figure was carved in 1778 by the sculptors Hoffmann and Baumgärtner. The Maulaff depictsincaricatureapeasant in Spessart costume of the late 18th century: ship’s hat, greenskirt, red vest, yellow leather trousers, calf stockings and buckle shoes. He rests his hands on a long stick and rips his mouth wide open. The mole served in Schönbusch Park near Aschaffenburg for the amusement of the Elector’s Court Society. As a target figure he stood on a meadow in the "ValleyofGames". Throw the ball into the wide opened mouth, which then – if hit – rolled out through a tube at the bottom of the back of the figure.

Since April 2019, the Maulaff (Aschaffenburg’s traditional tavern) has been running under the direction of the ambitious new restaurateur Markus Finck, an Aschaffenburg "connoisseur of the scene". "To live and preserve tavern tradition": this is the main task of the new host. Garnish with one or the other innovation. Furthermore, "traditional" and "up-and-comingstage-goers" can look forward to fresh, down-to-earth cuisine, exquisite beer and wine specialities and, of course, the conviviality in Metzgergasse 1. A special treat: the self-brewed "Maulaff" beer, which is not available anywhere else. In addition to changing beers, seminars and tastings will be organised in the coming months.
